Barrio Mobile Arts Studio (BMAS) — Exhibition Opening of Histories Absolved at Medina

Self Help Graphics

This event was initially scheduled to open on November 8, but has been rescheduled to open on November 15.

Self Help Graphics Pop-Up arts programming presents its renowned Barrio Mobile Arts Studio (BMAS), whose mobile art workshops meet participants and LA/ Islam Arts Initiative artists “where they are” through the use of new technological art practices such as PhoneART and DIY printmaking. Capturing the diverse audiences and artists of the LA/IAI, the program explores new technologies that meet participants and artists “where they are.” Using the idea of meeting people “where they are”, Self Help Graphics’ Barrio Mobile Arts Studio will capture personal narratives, reactions, and real time responses through artmaking.

Mobile Art Programs (MAP) serves Self Help Graphics & Art's mission to nurture emerging artists and present Latino art to a broad audience, and address the vast demographic that is Los Angeles, while also expanding SHG's audience and community beyond the East Los Angeles community. The relaunched BMAS (2014) will train and hire artists who specialize in a variety of art forms to engage with community and youth through art (workshops and exhibitions). Workshops include silkscreening, printmaking, mobile phone/tablet digital art, stencil making, aerosol art, and mural projects.
